An Indian Civil Account Services officer was fatally shot by his father-in-law at the Chandigarh district court complex on Saturday, officials said.

The deceased, identified as Harprit Singh, was allegedly killed by Malwinder Singh Sidhu, a retired assistant inspector general of Punjab Police, who has been taken into custody.

The incident occurred amid ongoing divorce proceedings between Harprit Singh and his wife, Amitoj Kaur. During a mediation session, Malwinder allegedly used a pretext to access his weapon and opened fire, police reported.
