Punjab Police launched a special operation named 'OPS Seal-VIII' on Monday, targeting vehicles crossing state borders to curb drug trafficking and liquor smuggling. The operation also aimed to monitor gangsters and anti-social elements ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

Directed by Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the synchronized operation ran from 6 am to 2 pm. Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla disclosed that all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in border districts coordinated with their counterparts in adjoining states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh to implement effective blockades.

SDGP Shukla stated that the operation saw over 1,000 police personnel deployed at strategic checkpoints across ten inter-state districts. During the operation, police checked 4,245 vehicles, issued 293 challans, and impounded 16 vehicles. They also registered 26 FIRs, arresting 27 individuals and seizing significant quantities of narcotics and liquor.
