The Anti-Gangster Task Force of Punjab Police has taken decisive action against online criminal activities, blocking 203 social media accounts found to glorify gangsters and incite violence, a senior police official stated on Monday.

According to the official, 132 of these accounts were on Facebook and 71 were on Instagram. The AGTF's social media analysis unit identified these accounts for uploading content that eulogized gangsters, claimed responsibilities of killings, and flaunted the violence against rival gang members.

These accounts were found promoting violence and threatening police officers, said the official. The crackdown is part of the AGTF's ongoing operations, initiated in April 2022 by the AAP government, to eradicate gang-related violence from Punjab. Since its inception, AGTF arrested 1,408 criminals, neutralized 12, and busted 505 gangster modules. It has also coordinated with central agencies and other state police forces in operations across multiple states, resulting in 37 inter-state criminal arrests.
