A shocking incident of cyber fraud has surfaced in Mumbai, where the wife of a retired senior Indian Railways officer was duped of more than Rs 2.59 lakh. The woman fell prey while attempting to sell household furniture on an online marketplace.

The 58-year-old victim, residing at Badhwar Park Railway Officer's Colony, realized the theft on Thursday evening and approached Colaba Police Station with a complaint. Her husband had recently retired, and the couple was in the process of vacating their government accommodation.

The victim posted photos of the furniture on OLX, after which she was contacted by a prospective buyer, Anita Gupta, who agreed to purchase all items for Rs 34,000. Gupta's accomplice, Bharat Jatav, manipulated the victim into making several transactions, resulting in a loss of Rs 2.59 lakh from her husband's account. A case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act has been filed against the fraudsters.
