The Supreme Court is poised to hear Vijay Nair's bail plea on August 27. Nair, who previously was the Aam Aadmi Party's communication in-charge, is embroiled in a money laundering case tied to the Delhi excise policy scam.
A bench comprising justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate on August 12, acknowledging that Nair has been in custody for two years. Senior advocates Abhishek Singhvi and Vikram Chaudhary, representing Nair, noted his arrest on November 13, 2022, and are challenging the trial court's July 29 decision to deny him default bail.
The money laundering case originates from a CBI FIR filed after Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena recommended an inquiry into the now-scrapped excise policy of 2021-22. Allegations include Nair arranging illicit funds through hawala operators, which were purportedly funneled to AAP as kickbacks.
