In a political jab, BJP leader RP Singh on Tuesday criticized former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the controversial 'Sheesh Mahal' project, unveiling a 'gold-plated' toilet as evidence. Singh alleged that Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party's National Convenor, had installed twelve such lavish toilets, each priced at Rs 1.44 crore, during the renovation of the Chief Minister's residence. The renovation project, described as 'Sheesh Mahal', reportedly cost Rs 56 crores in total.
Highlighting fiscal concerns, Singh questioned the fund allocation, pointing out the poor condition of public toilets in Delhi. He accused political parties of offering freebies to secure votes, asserting that such extravagant projects signify a misallocation of resources. Singh pledged that if elected, the BJP would prioritize building improved public facilities, including toilets and bathrooms, while accusing the AAP government of exploiting citizens under the guise of 'revdis' (free gifts).
Adding to the criticism, BJP leader Vijay Goel emphasized that upcoming Delhi assembly elections should focus on core issues like dirty tap water and pollution rather than electoral gimmicks. He criticized Kejriwal for failing to address these concerns over the past decade, observing that new announcements are mere attempts to secure votes through freebies. The 'Sheesh Mahal' controversy remains a contentious topic, highlighting accusations about Kejriwal's expenditures amid the COVID-19 pandemic when many public projects were reportedly stalled.
