A court in Maharashtra's Raigad district has remanded a man in police custody for seven days related to the murder of a 20-year-old woman in Uran, Navi Mumbai, officials disclosed on Wednesday.

Police have added charges under the SC/ST Atrocities Act against the suspect, Dawood Shaikh, who was apprehended from Gulbarga, Karnataka. Shaikh was taken into custody on Tuesday morning and brought to Navi Mumbai later that night, as confirmed by a senior police official.

Shaikh appeared in the Panvel Sessions court on Wednesday, which ordered the seven-day police custody. The deceased woman's autopsy report showed she died from multiple stab wounds. The investigation began when her parents reported her missing on July 25, and her body was found two days later. The case was registered under section 103 for murder, and multiple teams were involved in the search that led to Shaikh's arrest.
