J&K's Security Situation and Tourism Boom: An Analysis
Nityanand Rai

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, declared a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir during a session in Rajya Sabha. Addressing a query from Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, Rai stated that recent terrorist activities would soon cease, stressing that terrorists would either land in jail or be sent to 'jahannum' (hell).

Highlighting the Modi government's stance, Rai noted that security forces have neutralized about 900 terrorists in J&K since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. In the previous decade, there were over 7,000 terror incidents; however, this number has significantly dropped under the current administration. Rai criticized the opposition for politicizing such incidents.

Additionally, Rai emphasized that the region's peace and security have led to a tourism boom, reporting unprecedented tourist growth. Post-abrogation of Article 370, the number of tourists has substantially increased, contributing more to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) with a 15.13% average annual growth rate in the past three years.
