Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao criticized wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia after the duo joined Congress. He claimed that their actions revealed a partisan inclination towards Congress rather than their sporting roles as national icons.

Sao dismissed Phogat's allegations against the BJP, asserting that the party has always adhered to legal procedures and stood by the truth. "Her claims are politically motivated, given her recent Congress candidacy," he stated.

Phogat expressed pride in joining Congress, a party she feels supported them during their struggles. Both wrestlers have resigned from Northern Railways, with Phogat set to contest in the Julana constituency and Punia appointed as working president of the All India Kisan Congress.
