New Jammu Railway Division Set to Transform Northern Railways

The Railway Ministry is poised to introduce a new division with headquarters in Jammu, restructured from the Firozpur division, under the Northern Railway Zone. Announced on January 1, 2025, the Jammu division is set to include five sections: Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur (notably named after martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan), Srinagar-Baramula, Bhogpur Sirwal-Pathankot, Batala (excluding)-Pathankot, and Pathankot-Joginder Nagar.
These sections will collectively span a length of 742.1 km. However, the official jurisdiction details will be finalized based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR), according to the ministry's statements. The new divisional headquarters in Jammu is mandated to be a modern office, fully leveraging information technology advancements.
Tasked with establishing a lean organizational framework, the railway ministry plans to allocate staff for the new division from existing positions within the Northern Railway. Currently, there are 68 rail divisions across 17 railway zones, and Jammu is set to become the 69th. A Detailed Project Report is requested to expedite the assessment of infrastructure necessities and the organizational setup required for the new division.
