The upcoming budget session of Telangana's Assembly, set to begin on July 23, will prominently feature the Congress government's crop loan waiver and other electoral promises. This session will be the party's first full budget presentation since coming to power last December. The budget will be tabled on July 25.
Launched with significant fanfare last week, the crop loan waiver scheme will unfold in phases, with an outlay of around Rs 31,000 crore. However, opposition parties like BRS and BJP have voiced dissatisfaction, claiming the scheme leaves many farmers without benefits. Additionally, critics point to failures in disbursing promised funds under the 'Rythu Bharosa' scheme.
Other key promises from the Congress include free public transport for women, subsidized LPG cylinders for the poor, free electricity up to 200 units, and the Arogya Sri health scheme. The opposition is expected to scrutinize the fulfillment of these promises during the session. Unemployment and government job creation will also be significant discussion points, with the Congress introducing a 'job calendar' to address youth concerns.
