Unprecedented Unemployment Crisis in India: Congress Attacks PM Modi

The Congress party has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged lack of vision in addressing the severe unemployment crisis in India. According to a report shared by Congress' Jairam Ramesh, corporate employment growth has significantly slowed, and massive layoffs have occurred, exacerbating the issue.

The Congress on Thursday sounded the alarm over what it described as an ''unprecedented unemployment crisis,'' accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of lacking the vision to address the issue effectively.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in charge of communications, cited a Bank of Baroda report indicating that employment growth in the corporate sector plummeted to 1.5% in FY24 from 5.7% in FY23. ''This is further evidence of the government's economic failures,'' Ramesh said, highlighting job losses totaling 2.43 lakh positions and massive layoffs across 375 companies.

Ramesh criticized Modi, calling his promises of creating millions of jobs ''hollow'' and condemning what he described as the Prime Minister's lack of a concrete plan to combat unemployment. The opposition party has consistently slammed the government for its handling of the economy, emphasizing rising unemployment and prices as ongoing concerns.
