A Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces near the Telangana border in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Friday morning, according to police sources.

The encounter occurred around 10 am in the jungle near Semaltodi village under the Ilmidi police station limits, close to the interstate border.

A joint team of Greyhounds, Telangana's specialized anti-Naxal force, and the Bijapur police's District Reserve Guard were conducting an anti-Naxalite operation in the area, a senior official stated.

''Following the exchange of gunfire, the body of a male Naxalite was discovered along with a carbine, a grenade, Maoist uniform, bags, and Maoist literature. Search operations are still ongoing in the area,'' the official added.

According to the police, 141 Naxalites have been killed in various encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. The Bastar division, which includes seven districts including Bijapur, recorded the highest number of killings, with 139 Maoists taken down. In other incidents, two Naxalites were killed in Dhamtari district, and several notable encounters occurred in Narayanpur and Kanker districts.
