In a horrific case from Maharashtra's Palghar district, police have detained Jayprakash Amarnath Dubey and his stepson for allegedly murdering his pregnant wife over dowry demands, an official revealed on Friday.

The victim, married to Nallasopara resident Jayprakash Dubey (40), faced regular domestic abuse, often involving alcohol-fueled violence from Dubey, who cited unmet dowry demands, according to the FIR. On April 7, Jayprakash and his son Sachin (20) allegedly forced-fed the woman a liquid substance, leading to the death of her unborn child. Jayprakash was arrested but later secured bail, while Sachin remained at large.

Tragically, the victim succumbed to her injuries on July 2, prompting a police effort to revoke Jayprakash's bail. By then, however, he had gone underground. Following various leads, police apprehended the father-son duo on July 16 in Nallasopara. Both have now been charged with murder, as confirmed by Senior Inspector Rahul Rakha of the Central Crime Unit of Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police.
