Around 300 villagers in Tripura's Dhalai district have yet to return to their homes after they were set ablaze three days ago in the wake of a deadly clash between two groups, officials revealed on Monday.

These families have taken refuge in a shelter following the July 12 arson incident in Gandatwisa village, located approximately 110 km from the state capital, Agartala.

Dhalai District Magistrate Saju Vaheed led a team that met with the displaced families on Sunday, assuring them of imminent security measures and compensation, officials confirmed. At least 40 houses and 30 shops suffered extensive damage, and four motorcycles were torched. Affected families are now staying at Gandatwisa Higher Secondary School. The situation has improved with the deployment of additional security forces in vulnerable areas, stated Gandatwisa Sub Divisional Magistrate Chandrajoy Reang.

The administration is committed to providing compensation to around 80 affected families. The district magistrate's team also convened with a local committee to discuss reopening the market. Officials indicated that the attack stemmed from a clash on July 7 in the local market, which resulted in the critical injury and subsequent death of college student Parameshwar Reang on July 12 at GBP Hospital in Agartala. Four arrests have been made in connection with his death.
