A US national was fatally shot on Friday during a protest against Israeli settlements in Beita, occupied West Bank. Palestinian officials and eyewitnesses confirmed the incident, the New York Times reported.

The US State Department identified the woman as Aysenur Eygi. Activists at the protest site claimed she was shot by Israeli soldiers. Following the incident, the US government extended condolences to Eygi's family. US Ambassador to Israel, Jack Lew, shared a post on X expressing sorrow and prioritizing the safety of American citizens.

An investigation is underway to gather all relevant details surrounding Eygi's death. The Israeli military is also reviewing reports of a foreign national being killed during their operation in Beita. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) stated that forces responded with fire when their security was threatened. Eygi had recently arrived in Israel to show solidarity with Palestinians in the West Bank, according to Turkey's Anadolu news agency.
