Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Approves Reforms in Electricity Subsidies and Infrastructure Projects

The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, approved reforms to restrict electricity bill subsidies to 'one family one meter' and interlink power connections with ration cards.

The Cabinet also decided to abolish subsidies for high-ranking officials and income taxpayers. Critics, including former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, accuse the Congress-led government of reneging on its promise of providing 300 units of free electricity.

Other decisions include land acquisition for Kangra airport expansion, funding for a Bulk Drug Park, inclusion of new green areas in Shimla, and new appointments in the education department. Additionally, amendments were made to the HP Motor Vehicles Rules, and approval was given for a new ropeway project.
