Cheteshwar Pujara will not be returning to Sussex for the upcoming County Championship season, as the club has decided to retain Australian cricketer Daniel Hughes instead.

Hughes, who led the run-scoring charts in this year's T20 Vitality Blast, will participate in all Championship and T20 matches next season. Additionally, West Indies pacer Jayden Sales will feature in the first block of Championship fixtures.

While Pujara was set to join Sussex for a third consecutive time in 2024, he will now be replaced after the initial seven Championship matches. Head coach Paul Farbrace expressed confidence in Hughes, praising his significant contributions on and off the field.
