A violent mob attack injured several police personnel and a government official on Thursday in Assam's Kamrup (Metro) district, specifically in the Sonapur Kachutali area. The incident occurred when government officials and police were conducting an eviction assessment in the area.

Nitul Khataniar, Circle Officer of Sonapur Revenue Circle, conveyed to ANI via phone that approximately 1500 individuals surrounded the team from two sides, hurling stones and attacking them with bamboo sticks and sharp weapons. 'In the last two days, we carried out a peaceful eviction drive against illegal encroachers, but today, when we visited the area for an assessment, the mob attacked us. Several vehicles were also damaged,' Khataniar said.

In response, police resorted to blank firing shots to control the situation. To maintain order, additional security forces have been deployed to the area. The Kamrup (Metro) district administration had previously conducted an eviction drive against illegal encroachments in the same location. (ANI)
