A mob attack in Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham district left one man dead and several injured, including family members and police officers, on Sunday. Police reported that forty residents from the village of Loharidih have been detained following the incident.
The violence was allegedly triggered by suspicions that Raghunath Sahu had murdered another local, Kachru Sahu, who was found hanging from a tree in nearby Bijatola village. Preliminary investigations suggest suicide, but tensions flared, leading to the attack.
Police managed to rescue three members of Raghunath Sahu's family, with some hospitalized for injuries. A charred body, believed to be Raghunath's, was found at the scene. Further forensic tests are underway to confirm the identity. A significant police presence has been deployed to maintain order as investigations continue.
