The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a significant suspect from Maharashtra's Nashik on Friday in connection with an international human trafficking ring. The accused, Sudarshan Darade, is believed to be instrumental in forcing youths into illegal online operations such as credit card fraud and honey trapping.
Darade's arrest marks the sixth in this ongoing investigation, according to a statement released by the NIA. The agency's probe revealed that Darade was integrally involved in the trafficking syndicate that misled Indian youths with false promises of legal employment abroad.
The NIA found that these youths were coerced into working in fake call centers in countries including Laos and Cambodia, operated predominantly by foreign nationals. These operations were linked to operatives in various countries, including the UAE and Vietnam. The criminal network's activities also extended to cyber fraud and cryptocurrency scams.
Massive searches in Nashik led to Darade's arrest, alongside the seizure of several incriminating materials. Previously, five individuals were apprehended on May 27. The case, taken over from Mumbai Police on May 13, underscores a nationwide nexus of traffickers and cyber fraudsters directed by international syndicates.
These arrested individuals allegedly colluded with traffickers across international borders, particularly focusing on transporting Indian youths to the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Laos.
