In a significant announcement, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday held the previous BJD government accountable for the hardships endured by farmers in Odisha. He declared that an additional Rs 800 per quintal of paddy would be provided to cultivators to aid those affected by calamities such as floods and drought.
Majhi accused former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of failing to deliver on past promises made to farmers, highlighting a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal announced nine years ago that never materialized. Now, under the BJP administration, farmers will receive a total of Rs 3,100 per quintal, which includes the minimum support price and additional assistance.
To ensure smooth operations, the government plans to implement measures like procurement centers and monitoring at state borders to prevent unauthorized paddy entry. The chief minister emphasized strict actions against any disruptions in the procurement process, warning of potential jail time for offenders.
