Vikram Misri's service as Foreign Secretary has been extended beyond his original superannuation date of November 30, 2024. This decision, sanctioned by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, ensures Misri will maintain his position until July 14, 2026, or until further directions are issued.
A notice from Manisha Saxena, Secretary of the Appointments Committee & Establishment Officer, confirmed the extension under the provisions of FR 56 (d). Misri, a distinguished diplomat from the 1989 Indian Foreign Service batch, began his term as Foreign Secretary on July 15, 2024, following numerous significant assignments globally and within India.
His tenure in New Delhi included key positions on the Pakistan desk of the Ministry of External Affairs and within the Prime Minister's Office, notably as Private Secretary to three Prime Ministers. Misri's international postings span several major cities, serving in various diplomatic and strategic capacities that underline his dedication and impact on India's diplomacy and security.
