In a fervent plea, an assembly of authors, academics, and eminent civil society members have released an open letter decrying the escalating violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. The signatories, including noted authors Amish Tripathi and Ashwin Sanghi, pressed the Indian parliament to adopt a resolution condemning the communal violence.
The letter highlights recent incidents such as the burning of an ISKCON centre in Meherpur and the vandalism of Hindu temples, among other atrocities. It points to a historical pattern of persecution against the Hindu minority, emphasizing that over 3,600 attacks have been recorded since 2013. This violence has been exacerbated by the current political instability in Bangladesh.
Expressing an urgent need for action, the letter calls on people to demand their representatives address this issue at the highest governmental levels. It urges collaboration with international bodies and calls for humanitarian aid and asylum options for persecuted Hindus. The situation has worsened following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina and the establishment of an interim government by Professor Mohd. Younus. Protests by Hindu communities in Bangladesh and abroad further underscore the gravity of the situation.
