Delhi Healthcare Establishments Face Scrutiny Over Inaccessible Infrastructure

The Office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has issued a notice to several major healthcare establishments in Delhi for failing to provide adequate accessible infrastructure for people with disabilities.

The notice was directed to the Central Health Education Bureau (CHEB), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Safdarjung Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College and Sucheta Kriplani Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) following a complaint by Dr. Satendra Singh, a professor with 70% locomotor disability.

Dr. Singh's complaint, dated September 9, accuses these institutions of violating the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act of 2016. The notice urges the establishments to submit their comments and actions taken within 15 days, failing which an ex-parte decision may be rendered.
