Missouri Supreme Court Approves Abortion Rights Amendment for November Ballot
Missouri's Supreme Court has ruled that a proposed abortion rights amendment to the state constitution will appear on the November ballot. This decision follows a legal challenge and secures voter consideration of restoring legal abortion until fetal viability. Support from 52% of voters was shown in a recent poll.
Missouri's Supreme Court has given the green light for a proposed abortion rights amendment to be included on the November ballot, allowing voters to address the legalization of abortion in the state for the first time in over two years.
The court's decision followed a contentious legal battle, with anti-abortion lawmakers arguing that the measure failed to detail its full ramifications. The group Missourians for Constitutional Freedom appealed a lower court ruling that had disqualified the measure, leading to the Supreme Court's last-minute decision.
Chief Justice Mary Russell confirmed that the amendment will be certified to appear on the ballot before the printing deadline, giving Missouri voters a chance to decide on this crucial issue.
