The Uttar Pradesh Police has registered an FIR against a former district magistrate of Maharajganj and various administrative officials following the alleged illegal demolition of a house without prior notice in 2019. This action aligns with recent scrutiny from the Supreme Court.
The FIR, lodged at the Kotwali police station, accuses public servants, engineers, and contractors of deliberately violating laws and fabricating documents with malicious intent. The Supreme Court criticized the 2019 demolition for procedural violations and ordered a 25 lakh compensation to the affected petitioner.
Following court orders, the Maharajganj police officially recorded an FIR on December 30. Multiple former officials, including DM Amarnath Upadhyay, face charges such as rioting and false documentation. The court emphasized the importance of adhering to proper procedures before executing road-widening projects.
