Hundreds of junior doctors staged a protest march to Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata demanding justice for a rape-murder victim and the resignation of top officials, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner.
Carrying brooms and a model brain to symbolize the need for 'cleaning up' the health sector, the junior doctors have set a 5 pm deadline for their demands to be met. They vowed to stage a sit-in if their demands went unheeded.
This protest coincides with the Supreme Court's deadline for the doctors to return to work to avoid punitive actions. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has offered to hold talks with the agitating doctors to address their grievances.
