West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday dismissed allegations that construction work near the seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was meant to tamper with evidence in the ongoing investigation of a rape-murder case.
Banerjee emphasized that the work was purely for building retiring rooms and washrooms for doctors, adding that the deceased woman medic had been forced to rest in the seminar hall due to the absence of a dedicated room. 'There was no intention other than to build a retiring room there,' she said.
Addressing the issue at the state secretariat, the CM also stated that she had instructed Health Secretary NS Nigam over 10 days ago to resolve maintenance issues at the hospital, including construction of essential facilities. She further announced new management measures for state-run hospitals to enhance security and operations.
