In a setback to plans for a new film organization amid scandals in the Malayalam movie industry, director Lijo Jose Pellissery clarified on Wednesday that he is not currently part of the collective spearheaded by director Aashiq Abu.

Pellissery's announcement came a day after media reports suggested his involvement in the new film body, which aims to revitalise the industry and promote a fair and just workplace. ''I am not currently part of the film collective being publicised in the media,'' Pellissery posted on his Facebook page.

Pellissery praised the initiative but added, ''If I were to join such a collective, I would make an official announcement. Until then, any information circulating in my name is without my knowledge or consent.'' A vision note for the proposed Progressive Filmmakers' Association included signatures from notable filmmakers and industry members.
