A government school teacher has been apprehended for allegedly sexually harassing a 16-year-old girl student in Shimla's Theog subdivision, according to police reports on Wednesday.

The incident was exposed when the victim reported her ordeal to her parents, who subsequently approached the authorities.

Per the victim's parents, the teacher harassed their daughter on August 28 in his private cabin and sent obscene messages via WhatsApp. There were also prior incidents where the teacher asked the girl to visit his cabin, officials stated.

Theog Deputy Superintendent of Police Siddharth Sharma confirmed that the teacher has been charged under section 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
