The Faculty Association of AIIMS (FAIMS), Delhi, has called on the institute's director to prioritize the upgrading of the Student Wellness Centre and the enhancement of extracurricular facilities for students and residents.

This appeal follows a National Medical Commission task force survey that revealed alarming figures: nearly 28% of undergraduate and 15.3% of postgraduate medical students reported being diagnosed with mental health conditions. Furthermore, the survey indicated that 16.2% of MBBS and 31% of MD/MS students experienced suicidal thoughts in the past 12 months.

In a letter to the AIIMS-Delhi director, FAIMS proposed forming a task force to assess and develop extracurricular facilities and events aimed at fostering a sense of community. The association emphasized the necessity of upgrading facilities as mental health issues among the AIIMS community have become increasingly prevalent. FAIMS highlighted the essential role of extracurricular activities in maintaining mental wellbeing and called for immediate action to support holistic development at AIIMS.
