Medical Strike in Nagaland Protests Kolkata Doctor Tragedy

Healthcare services across Nagaland were disrupted on Saturday as medical professionals initiated a strike in protest of the rape and murder of a doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
Medical associations, including the Indian Medical Association Nagaland State Branch (IMANSB), Nagaland In-Service Doctors' Association (NIDA), and Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANSB), announced a withdrawal of all services except emergency ones from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m, condemning vandalism at the hospital and urging for better protection of healthcare workers nationwide.
Dr. Aonungdok Tushi Ao, IMANSB honorary secretary, expressed solidarity with the IMA's call for a nationwide strike. Meanwhile, at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, outpatient services were halted but emergency services continued to function.
IDANSB stressed the necessity for a safe working environment for healthcare professionals and promised ongoing support for initiatives aimed at ensuring justice and protection for those affected. NIDA members also showed solidarity by wearing black bands and badges.
The tragic incident involved the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor on duty at the RG Kar MCH last week, sparking widespread outrage and demands for action.
