The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched extensive raids on Monday at multiple locations nationwide, as part of an investigation into activities promoted by certain Bangladeshi nationals linked to the terror outfit Al-Qaeda. The large-scale operation unfolded at nine sites linked to individuals suspected of supporting and funding the proscribed group.
Search operations commenced in the early hours across Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura, and Assam. NIA officials uncovered incriminating documents, revealing detailed banking transactions and seized digital devices, including mobile phones, crucial for investigations related to terror funding.
The raids follow a chargesheet filed last November against five individuals, including four Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian. Investigations revealed they procured forged documents to clandestinely promote Al-Qaeda activities, aiming to radicalize vulnerable Indian youth and spread violent ideologies. The NIA's crackdown marks a significant step in counter-terrorism efforts.
