In a significant development, a Naxalite was killed during a clash with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Saturday morning, authorities reported. The encounter occurred in the hills near Tumalpad village, within Chintagufa police station limits, as security personnel launched an anti-Naxalite operation.
"One Naxalite was killed, and a weapon along with a considerable amount of Naxal-related material was recovered from the scene," stated the Sukma police. The operation was carried out by personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters units of the state police.
The identity of the deceased Naxalite remains unknown as the search continues in the vicinity. Additionally, four battalions of the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), comprising around 4,000 personnel, are scheduled for deployment in Bastar to intensify anti-insurgency operations.
During an inter-state coordination meeting on August 24, Union Home Minister Amit Shah noted a 70 percent reduction in the deaths of security personnel due to Naxal activities. He expressed optimism that the fight against Naxalism is in its final phase, aiming for a complete eradication by March 2026.
