Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that the BJP's membership drive in the state has been highly successful, with 13 lakh people joining within a week. Sarma confirmed that the drive would continue until September 25.

"In just a week, we've secured 13 lakh memberships, placing Assam among the top five states in the country for BJP membership. This drive will continue until September 25. I visited the BJP state office in Guwahati to review the membership status and held discussions," Sarma stated. He also extended his best wishes to Congress, which is strategizing for the next state assembly elections.

Meanwhile, Congress held an extended executive meeting in Assam, focusing on their approach to the upcoming assembly elections and addressing widespread corruption in the BJP government. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi highlighted the significance of the meeting.

In a significant political move, former TMC leader Ripun Bora rejoined Congress in Assam's Charaideo on Sunday. Bora described his return as a homecoming, emphasizing the need to unite against the BJP to address corruption and improve living conditions in Assam. He joined Congress along with 36 TMC state committee office bearers.
