The Samajwadi Party and Congress are gearing up for bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, targeting the state government over its 'undemocratic' working style and a recent spate of wolf attacks. Leaders of both parties, which contested Lok Sabha elections in an alliance, have confirmed they will contest the bypolls 'unitedly'.

Samajwadi Party chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said, 'The government has failed on this front (stopping wolf attacks). It has made people of the entire state insecure.' Congress state unit chief Ajay Rai echoed this sentiment, adding that the terror is moving towards the cities.

The BJP, meanwhile, said state authorities are making every effort to resolve the problem. Eight people have been killed in wolf attacks in Bahraich district in the last two months, according to official figures. Thermal drones and cameras have been installed to capture the wolves, and teams of officers and shooters have been deployed for search operations.
