Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday sharply criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress (TMC) party, accusing them of fostering an environment of terror, fear, and violence. His comments came in response to the alleged murder and rape of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 in Kolkata.

Scindia stated, 'In our scriptures, it is written that where women are worshipped, god lives there. Sadly, an environment of terror, fear, and violence has been created in West Bengal under the rule of TMC's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, where women are not only exploited but also murdered,' during a press interaction at Bagdogra airport in Siliguri, West Bengal. He further highlighted that the safety of women, youth, businessmen, and common people is in jeopardy in the state under Banerjee's leadership.

Earlier, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose also condemned the state government over the incident, claiming that the law is not being effectively implemented. Bose alleged that portions of the police force are criminalized and politicized. 'Parents of the victim shared their heartbreaking concerns with me. They want justice, and the entire Bengali society seeks justice. The government needs to take decisive action and regain public confidence,' said Governor Bose. He added that wrongdoers should be punished to restore the public's trust in the law.

The body of the trainee doctor was discovered in the seminar room of the hospital on August 9, sparking nationwide protests. Police arrested a civic volunteer shortly after, and the CBI subsequently detained Dr. Sandip Ghosh for alleged financial misconduct at the medical facility.
