Four wolves involved in a deadly series of attacks in Bahraich district have been captured, with efforts ongoing to track and capture two more, senior forest officials revealed Thursday. The wolves are responsible for the deaths of seven children and a woman, as well as injuring 15 others over the past two months.

Chief Forest Conservator (Central Zone) Renu Singh confirmed that four wolves have been apprehended so far. 'For a long time, there was terror of wolves here,' Singh remarked. 'Today, we have caught a wolf and will transfer it to the zoo. Preparations are underway to capture the remaining two,' she added.

Divisional Forest Officer from Barabanki, Akashdeep Badhawan, detailed the process. 'We have been monitoring a pack of wolves and successfully caught one today using direct and indirect sightings, pad marks, and IR drones. The wolf was tranquilized with the help of veterinarians,' Badhawan said.

Badhawan also mentioned that the remaining two wolves are under constant surveillance, with new strategies being devised according to local conditions. 'Three wolves have been rescued this month, including one today. Two are still under our watch, and we are hopeful of rescuing them soon,' he stated.

The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department has employed infrared (IR) drones to monitor the wolves. 'Our drones have spotted two wolves near a village. We confirmed their presence through footsteps and have alerted local residents,' said Divisional Forest Officer Ajeet Pratap Singh.

Mahasi Circle Officer Rupendra Gaur added, 'We are using drones, nets, and cages in our efforts to capture the wolves. Our priority is to ensure the safety of residents, especially in light of the eight fatalities and 15 injuries reported.' (ANI)
