Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new zonal office of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday. Besides the inauguration, Shah participated in an NCB review meeting held in the city.

During his speech, Shah underscored the collective responsibility to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to eradicate narcotics and drugs from India, aligning with the Prime Minister's vision. He expressed confidence that the new zonal office would be pivotal in narcotics control and mentioned plans to establish NCB offices in every state. He also noted a shift in drug trafficking trends within the country.

Shah highlighted that drug smugglers are increasingly focusing on synthetic drugs, which, despite their lower production, cause significant harm and command higher prices. He pointed out that sedative usage in Chhattisgarh is at 1.45 percent, higher than the national average. Chhattisgarh's geographic position, sharing borders with seven states and proximity to the Bay of Bengal, facilitates drug trafficking. He emphasized the importance of scientific investigations to dismantle entire drug networks, urging thorough probes from production to distribution.
