A Bahraich woman has filed a police complaint claiming her husband gave her 'triple talaq' after she praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials revealed on Saturday. A police team has been dispatched to apprehend the husband, according to a senior officer.
The woman, identified as Mariam, alleged that her in-laws beat her and sent her to her parental home after she commended the BJP-led government's efforts. Mariam told ANI that her appreciation for the leadership's development work in Ayodhya city angered her in-laws.
Mariam also accused her spouse of demanding excessive dowry, stating their family could not meet these demands. Bahraich Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla noted that a case has been registered, and authorities are actively pursuing those involved in the alleged harassment.
