The Supreme Court's directive has led to the deployment of CISF teams at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. CISF Deputy Inspector General K Pratap Singh confirmed on Thursday that the CISF is now operational across all shifts.
In a letter dated August 21, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs communicated to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal the necessity for CISF deployment. This came in response to escalating protests following the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the institution, outlining the need for enhanced security measures.
The Supreme Court ordered the shift to CISF security on Tuesday as it reviewed the ongoing case. The intervention aims to stabilize the highly agitated environment in West Bengal, ensuring public peace and supporting local law enforcement.
