Health professionals at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, have called off their 11-day strike and returned to their duties as of Thursday. The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) announced the decision, attributing it to the Supreme Court's appeal and the spirit of public service.
During the hearing of the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, the Supreme Court urged health professionals to return to their duties, pledging that the authorities would refrain from taking adverse actions against them. The court emphasized the critical role of doctors in maintaining the public health infrastructure.
The Supreme Court has also set up a 10-member National Task Force to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals. The task force, which includes Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, is expected to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.
