In response to continued protests over the alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls by a school attendant in Badlapur, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has announced a statewide bandh on August 24. The decision emerged from a meeting initially intended to discuss seat sharing for the upcoming assembly elections.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut stated, "We convened to discuss seat sharing, but instead prioritized the pressing issue of law and order following the Badlapur incident. Maharashtra's people are incensed, with FIRs registered against protesters. Consequently, MVA will call for a Maharashtra Bandh on August 24." NCP leader Jitendra Awhad added, "FIRs have been filed against 300 protesters. This is an unconstitutional government, and a bandh is crucial."

Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the seriousness of the Badlapur incident. On August 17, police apprehended an attendant accused of abusing the girls, sparking massive outrage and demonstrations, including stone-pelting and clashes with police at Badlapur Railway Station.

In response to the unrest, police have arrested more than 40 individuals and filed FIRs against 300 people. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered a high-level investigation, forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. Heavy security remains in place to manage ongoing protests.
