The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continued its investigation on Tuesday into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Sources have revealed that the CBI has received permission to conduct a polygraph test on the arrested suspect.

On August 18, the CBI employed 3D laser mapping technology to scrutinize the emergency ward where the crime took place. Additionally, on Monday, the West Bengal government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into financial irregularities at the hospital dating back to January 2021.

In a surge of public outcry, prominent artists from Bengal's music industry took to the streets on Monday. Iconic figures, including actor Saheb Chatterjee and radio personality Mir Afsar Ali, protested against the alleged atrocity, demanding justice and maximum punishment for the culprits. "We need complete justice. This is not just an issue for India, but an international one," said Saheb Chatterjee. Singer Soumyojit added, "We artists are here to demand changes in the system."

Radio personality Mir Afsar Ali echoed the sentiment, stating, "We are compelled to express our outrage. As creatives, we are deeply affected by such cases and feel it is our duty to raise our voices." The case has also garnered the attention of the Supreme Court, with Chief Justice DY Chandrachud leading a bench to hear the matter. Arrests have been made, and the accused, a civic volunteer, was apprehended a day after the incident.
