In a strategic move ahead of the assembly elections across multiple states, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal expressed the party's robust readiness during a screening committee meeting held in New Delhi on Monday. The pivotal gathering was spearheaded by President Mallikarjun Kharge and Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, alongside general secretaries and in-charges at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters.
Venugopal, communicating the party's stance via a post on X, highlighted the palpable public discontent towards the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies. 'We are fully geared up for the upcoming round of elections,' Venugopal remarked, asserting that there is widespread anger against the BJP, which positions Congress favorably to fulfill public aspirations for a pro-poor and pro-people government.
Meanwhile, Assembly elections for Haryana will take place in a single phase on October 1. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that Jammu and Kashmir will experience a three-phase polling process from September 18 to October 1, with key nomination dates set for August 27, September 5, and September 12. The votes will be counted on October 4. The Maharashtra elections have faced a temporary delay due to security issues in Jammu and Kashmir.
