BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in light of accusations from the parents of a deceased doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Poonawalla, speaking to ANI on Sunday, asserted that Banerjee should step down if she has any morality left.

Poonawalla stated that the parents' claims indicate the state government's failure to protect its daughters or seek justice for them, accusing it instead of protecting rapists and covering up the crime. He questioned what the West Bengal government was trying to hide, alleging that the parents were misled from the outset.

The doctor's mother criticised the West Bengal CM for improper police conduct and accused Banerjee of attempting to suppress protests. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and will hear it on August 20. The Calcutta High Court has directed the CBI to investigate, following the arrest of a civic volunteer by Kolkata Police.
