The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is intensifying its probe into the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. On Sunday, the team employed 3D laser mapping technology in the hospital's emergency ward.

Authorities report that psychological testing of the main accused was conducted earlier in the day. A CBI psychologist arrived in the city on Saturday to aid the investigation team. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case, with a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud set to hear it on August 20.

The horrific incident has stirred nationwide outrage, leading to protests from various sectors. Football fans gathered in protest near Salt Lake Stadium, resulting in the cancellation of the Durand Cup match between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. Junior doctors and students continue their demonstrations at RG Kar Medical College.

The victim was allegedly raped and murdered on August 9 while on duty, triggering massive protests and strikes from the medical community. The protest site and hospital were vandalized by a mob on August 14, necessitating police intervention.

Kolkata police have imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, around the Medical College and Hospital, effective from August 18 to August 24, to maintain law and order.
