The President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has appealed to doctors to return to patient care, leaving justice to the Supreme Court of India in light of the protests over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar College and Hospital in Kolkata. The IMA's letter emphasized the national reaction to the incident, noting the collective grief and anger over the young doctor's tragic death.

The letter highlighted the Supreme Court's involvement and urged the medical community to adhere to its guidance. The Resident Doctors had taken to the streets in outrage, and services were suspended except for emergencies for 24 hours as per IMA's call. The Supreme Court has since formed a National Task Force to handle the situation and assured the medical fraternity of delivering justice while maintaining healthcare services.

The case has fueled political conflict, with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The local police have been replaced by the Central Bureau of Investigation as per an order from the Calcutta High Court. Protests continue across various states, with healthcare professionals calling for increased security measures.
