Order has been restored in Nashik after violent clashes erupted on Friday during a protest march condemning anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Ravindra Kumar Chauhan confirmed that FIRs were registered and 15 people were taken into custody. More arrests are expected based on photographic and video evidence.
Several Hindu organizations had organized a strike to protest the violence in Bangladesh. The situation escalated when stone-pelting injured ten people and damaged vehicles in Nashik's Bhadrakali area, where shops were open despite the strike call.
Police responded with a mild lathi charge to control the unrest. State Minister Girish Mahajan indicated that tensions persist in Old Nashik and urged residents to maintain peace. He has communicated with the Police Commissioner and District Collector, who assured him that the situation is under control.
